Whether you’re a solo explorer travelling Australia, or on a family holiday, there are plenty of Whitsundays accommodation options to choose from in our little piece of paradise. With such a plethora of activities on your doorstep, it’s best to find an accommodation option that will suit your trip.

If you plan on spending lots of time out on the water exploring the islands, something located within walking distance to the marina is a good idea. But there are also fancier options, places closer to restaurants, and larger resort spaces for travelling families too! In this post, we’re going to share 8 amazing accommodation destinations and who we recommend them for.

8 Amazing Whitsundays Accommodation Destinations For Backpackers And Travelers

Paradise Cove Resort

Whitsundays accommodation with paradise cove resort Top of our list is definitely Paradise Cove Resort—and not just because our popular tour Rise To Paradise is part of it! This destination is a truly exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime experience for anyone visiting the Whitsundays, and it has different room options for both couples, solo travellers and backpackers too!

Hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Airlie Beach, this exotic resort location will simply amaze you. The Balinese inspired interior is stunning, plus there are so many activity options (including kayaking, campfires, swimming, tennis, and so much more). Not to mention the incredible outdoor bathing areas which are a magical, tranquil experience—perfect for any paradise getaway!

Coral Sea Resort

This resort is centred between Abell Point Marina and Airlie Beach—with a leisurely boardwalk stroll past a private beach in one direction, and a short walk to Airlie Beach Lagoon in the other.

The prime location makes it perfect for any traveller touring the islands with Red Cat Adventures, because it’s within perfect proximity to Abell Point Marina. Plus, there are plenty of dining options around you—at the marina, in the resort itself, and in the heart of town.

Coral Sea Resort has a stunning waterfront location and pool—and it’s highly recommended for couples and solo travellers. With helpful, welcoming staff, your stay here is sure to be relaxing and picturesque.

Airlie Beach Hotel

If convenience is what sells you, then Airlie Beach Hotel is perfect! It has a great location within walking distance to everything Airlie Beach has to offer. It’s a clean space with ocean views, a variety of dining choices and easy accessibility. The affordable room prices and free parking are also a great perk!

Airlie Beach Hotel has friendly staff and is recommended for solo travellers and backpackers who may want the comfort of their own room for a change.

Pinnacles Resort

Whitsundays accommodation options aren’t limited to just hotel rooms and backpacker hostels—one of our favourite things about Pinnacles Resort is that the rooms are apartment style! This makes them ideal for couples seeking a private getaway, families who want a larger stay-cation space, or just the indulgent traveller who likes to treat themselves!

With spacious, comfortable apartments, beautiful grounds and ocean views, a spa, horizon pool and gym—there’s a lot to love about Pinnacles Resort. It’s a little further away from Airlie Beach but it’s still within walking distance to Abell Point Marina and all the dining options down that way.

Big 4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort

Hello caravan travellers—this one is for you! If you’re on a family holiday, there’s no better place to stay than the Big 4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort! This place is an absolute paradise for kids.

This is the only destination on the list located furthest away from the heart of Airlie Beach, but it’s only ten minutes driving distance there and back.

This safe, relaxing and fun family environment is an absolutely dream for travelling families—enjoy the massive waterpark, the petting zoo, outdoor movies, mini golf, jumping pillows, tennis and volleyball courts… and so much more!

It’s a caravan park so you can camp your van in the grounds, but there are also cabins and plenty of amenities for guests as well.

Magnums

If you’re a social butterfly looking to kick back with a couple of cold ones, enjoy some live music, and maybe enjoy a game of pool with your new friends, then Magnums is the place for you! This backpacker destination is right in the heart of the nightclub scene of Airlie Beach, and it’s definitely a party haven.

This place always has live bands playing, offers cheap delicious food, and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable on the area. They can help you organise tours and travel arrangements if you ever need a hand.

Nomads

Another backpacker location—Nomads is a resort style location with a swimming pool, tropical gardens, a volleyball court and a poolside bar. It’s within walking distance to Abell Point Marina and everything Airlie Beach has to offer.

Nomads also offers social activities all week long (such as boat trip after parties, shed bar DJ sessions and various competitions). This place is great for any solo travellers or backpackers looking for a fun and social experience.

Base Backpackers

Base Backpackers are quite similar to Nomads in a sense that they offer social activities for backpackers, but a couple of additional perks include free reception Wi-Fi, campervan parking, hammocks and a social lounge area as well as a pool. It’s another location within distance to Airlie Beach and Abell Point Marina, and a great option to consider if you’re a backpacker visiting the Whitsundays.
