Airlie Beach Weather In October

Airlie Beach Weather in October

October is notorious for being one of the very best months to visit Airlie Beach and The Whitsundays.

TEMPERATURE

In October, Airlie Beach and The Whitsundays starts to heat up to those tropical temperatures that you would expect from north Queensland.  Temperatures generally hover around 27 degrees in the day and fall to 23 degrees at night.

Spring comes with warm sunny days that are perfect for any outdoor adventure, especially snorkelling and relaxing on a beach.  Sea temperatures start to warm up which prevents you from getting cold and allows you to stay in the water for longer.

The longer you stay in the water, the more you will see, so it’s definitely a winning situation.

RAIN

October is one of the driest months in Airlie Beach and you can almost be guaranteed that it will not rain at all.  If there is a sprinkle of rain, then it will be during the early hours of the morning when you are fast asleep.

You will notice that our green rolling hills continue to lose their lush green colour in October as we begin to roll into the thick of the dry season.  The dry season runs from August to December, with the most common sprinkles of rain happening at the beginning and end of the season.

WIND

October is known for not having any wind at all through The Whitsundays which means, glass-out conditions on the water.  ‘Glass-out’ is the term we use for an ocean that mimics a mirror, aka, zero waves or swell.

This does however present a problem for sailing boats but makes the conditions better than driving on the highway for fast boats like Thundercat.

SEA CONDITIONS

As mentioned above, the sea conditions in October don’t really need to be discussed, as it’s generally perfectly flat around The Whitsundays.  If for some strange reason we do get a slight breeze then it won’t be around long enough to build any decent waves.

Swell will be less than 1 meter which means smooth sailing for most boats.

Thundercat was specifically built to be stable and comfortable all year round, no matter what the weather throws our way. Click here to check it out.read more
