Airlie Beach Weather In September

airlie beach weather in septemberSeptember is possibly the best time of year to visit Airlie Beach and The Whitsundays because it’s starting to warm up from winter, but it’s not yet hot.

TEMPERATURE

In September, Airlie Beach and The Whitsundays shake off those winter temperatures and put our jumpers back in the closet.  Temperatures generally hover around 26 degrees in the day and fall to 20 degrees at night.

Spring comes with warm sunny days that are perfect for any outdoor adventure, especially snorkelling.  Sea temperatures start to warm up which prevents you from getting cold and allows you to stay in the water for longer.

The longer you stay in the water, the more you will see, so it’s definitely a winning situation.

RAIN

September is one of the driest months in Airlie Beach with little to no rain falling.  If there is a sprinkle of rain, then it will be during the early hours of the morning when you are fast asleep.

You will notice that our green rolling hills start to lose their lush green colour in September as we begin to roll into the thick of the dry season.  The dry season runs from August to December, with the most common random falls happening at the beginning and end of the season.

WIND

September sees a continuation of the southeasterly trade winds which blow cool air across the Coral Sea.  Wind speeds will not normally go above 15 knots in September which is perfect sailing weather.

September really is the perfect time of year to head out on a sailing adventure in The Whitsunday Islands and to Whitehaven Beach.  The calm, predictable breeze will catch perfectly in your sails as you cruise over the calm seas.

SEA CONDITIONS

September gives us very calm waters due to the low wind speeds of less than 15 knots.  Spring is that magic time of year where local boat owners can bet on being able to take their small boats out amongst the islands every weekend.

Swell will be less than 1 meter which means smooth sailing for most vessels of decent size.

Thundercat was specifically built to be stable and comfortable all year round, no matter what the weather throws our way. Click here to check it out.read more
